Lucky Daye is living the R&B dream. Just days after releasing his anticipated debut album Painted, the Keep Cool/RCA Records signee made his first visit to NPR headquarters for a Tiny Desk episode.
Daye didn’t come alone for his inaugural performance. The New Orleans native seduced the small audience with support from a 10-person band that included his musical partner D’Mile on bass guitar.
Daye kicked off his princely set with ‘Roll Some Mo,” the lead single from his I EP and featured song on Painted. He also dived into gloomy tune “Misunderstood,” before picking up the tempo with the funky banger “Late Night.”
If Daye’s Tiny Desk concert made a dope impression on you, make sure to check out one of his live shows this summer. He is heading to his hometown to perform at the 2019 Essence Festival on July 5. A day later, Daye will join Jill Scott, Boyz II Men, and Faith Evans in Houston for the fifth annual Summer Block Party concert series.
