The legend known as Mariah Carey graced the 2019 Billboard Music Awards with her elusive presence to receive the Icon Award on Wednesday night.
Prior to accepting the coveted trophy presented by Jennifer Hudson, Carey dazzled the crowd with her current Caution single “A No No.” Then, the songbird supreme performed a medley of hits from her gallery of number ones, including “Emotions,” “We Belong Together” and “Hero.”
While her impeccable live range made her set one of the standouts of the night, it was her impassioned speech that touched the hearts of her peers, critics, and most importantly her Lambily.
From considering herself an outsider in the music industry and making light of the “few memes” she’s inspired over the years to giving God his honor and glory, Carey delivered an inspiring message for artists everywhere.
