Almost two weeks after the release of The Internet‘s Matt Martians The Last Party, Steve Lacy‘s debut album is up next.
In a groovy snapshot that captures Lacy in a modern, retro look with an electric guitar in hand, the hippie musician captioned that his untitled album is slated to arrive on Friday, May 24.
Before making the release date public, Lacy opened up about his forthcoming project in a feature story with i-D. The two-year recording process took place in the bedroom his older sister occupied before leaving for college.
His first album will be the product of technology and instruments he acquired over the years. Lacy credits those new resources for a nine-minute song that will appear as a continuation to his lead offering “N Side.”
“It was kinda like a middle finger to the people who were like, you can’t make this song longer than three minutes and I was like alright I’ll give you nine minutes, how’s that?” Lacy revealed to the publication.
He continued, “It’s basically my journey, my sexuality. But in a very fun and witty way, it’s not really that serious, it’s not super sad. I think it’s my journey, it’s an expression of how I feel right now.”
Lacy’s impending debut work will be his first solo project since 2017’s Steve Lacy’s Demo.
