We may be in Taurus season, but Tay Iwar is skipping right over to Gemini. The Nigerian-born artist has released his debut album, ushering in a hybrid form of contemporary R&B that synthesizes lush Afrocentric stylings and funk grooves.
For his first full-length Soulection debut in two years, Iwar self-produced majority of the 16 tracks that take listeners on a journey through his memory of past relationships. He also recruits Le Mav and Doozybeatz for production assistance on the loopy, melodramatic tune “Fools” and the electro-tinged “Diamonds.”
Serving as a precursor to the energy and vibe that exudes from Gemini, Iwar is well-equipped to progress the sound of Nigerian music in years to come.
In August 2018, Iwar unveiled his three-track EP 1997, which gave listeners a glimpse of the album to come.
