You can’t push up on Nicole Bus, even if you’re “Mr. Big Shot.” After claiming her first number one single with her smash hit “You,” the distinctly voiced songstress returns with a brand new tune.
The production inspiration for “Mr. Big Shot” is Jay Hawkins’ 1956 hit “I Put a Spell on You,” which was later covered by Nina Simone. With her vintage musical character well intact, Bus brushes off the arrogant advancements from a major player who thinks “fancy diamonds” and payola can win her love.
“Mr. Big Shot,” which Bus crafted five years ago, is the second single from Bus’s forthcoming album slated to arrive later this year via Roc Nation.
“The album is definitely complimentary to the ‘90s era to the 2000’s and what I’m very proud of is we did it in a very tasteful way,” Bus revealed to HipHopDX in April about her new album. “So it sounds really new, but all the people who are from that era will recognize how we are actually complimenting everyone who came before us and inspired us the way they did.”
