It’s the year of Brandy. The astonishing vocalist’s new duet “Love Again” featuring Daniel Caesar makes an appearance in the top 10 (No. 9) on the Billboard Adult R&B Songs Chart this week.
Surprisingly, the new track is the Grammy winner’s highest solo single on this chart in 20 years. Her phenomenal ballad “Almost Doesn’t Count,” lifted from her sophomore album Never Say Never, peaked at No. 2 in 1999.
In 2012, Brandy was one notch close to the top 10 ranks with “It All Belongs to Me” featuring Monica. The Rico Love-helmed duet reached No. 11 after eight weeks on the chart. Their previous collaboration “The Boy is Mine” yielded the same peak position on this chart in 1998.
Brandy first employed the top 10 on the Billboard Adult R&B Songs chart in fall 1994 with her debut single “I Wanna Be Down.” The breakout hit climaxed at No. 5. Soon after, she racked up a slew of other top 10 hits on this chart with ’90s jams like “Best Friend” (No. 9), “Baby” (No. 2), “Sittin’ Up in My Room” (No. 4), “Brokenhearted” (No. 7), “Missing You” featuring Tamia, Gladys Knight and Chaka Khan (No. 2), and “Have You Ever” (No. 4).
“Love Again” is the lead single from Brandy’s forthcoming album, which is due later his year via Brand Nu Entertainment/Entertainment One. She has been working on this body of work for more than a year with hitmakers DJ Camper, Caesar, Prince Charlez, and LaShawn Daniels, who is responsible for some of her top 10 R&B singles.
