The buzz for Brandy’s seventh album just got louder. The vocal acrobat has announced her forthcoming work, spearheaded by DJ Camper, is due out later this year via Brand Nu Entertainment/Entertainment One.
Taking a page from her Never Say Never promotional handwork, Brandy has decided to go with “Love Again” featuring Daniel Caesar as the era-launching single. The duet also appears on Caesar’s surprise album, Case Study 01, which dropped in late June.
“I’m very excited to return with new music, and to release this single with Daniel,” said Brandy in a press statement. “I’m working on my new album, and can’t wait to release it later this year. I’m thankful for God’s blessings and for the support of my fans!”
“Love Again” has already broken ground on urban adult contemporary radio, standing at No. 28 with a total of over 2.6 million audience impressions.
As previously reported here at Rated R&B, Brandy has been in a music camp with Camper building her album from scratch since last year. In addition to collaborating with Camper and Caesar, she has also been spotted in the studio creating magic with Prince Charlez (Rihanna, Mary J. Blige) and LaShawn Daniels (Tamar Braxton, Janet Jackson), who worked on her sophomore album.
Speaking on the recordings of her new album last year, Brandy told Silent of TrueExclusives, “A lot of the time when I suffered not being able to get my music to the masses, it’s because I was singing the wrong songs. I’m going to make sure I don’t sing the wrong songs this time around.”
She continued, “They were not songs that were for me. When I don’t believe in a song, I shouldn’t do it because my belief in the song and in my belief in myself and the song won’t come together. So that equals no masses. I can’t reach everybody if I don’t believe in the song and you don’t believe in yourself in the song. Yeah, I can make a song sound good. But if I don’t believe in the song, then it’s not going to go anywhere.”
At the 2019 Essence Festival tonight (July 5), Brandy joins Ledisi, Shelia E, MC Lyte, and more on the main stage to kick off the 25th-anniversary show. She is slated to perform two nights at the Femme It Forward concert series later this month.
