When season three of 13 Reasons Why returns to Netflix on August 23, it will have a music contribution from Cautious Clay on the official soundtrack. The superproducer offers up a sound-shaping score titled “Swim Home.”
The song has a spacious, underwater backdrop that roots its purpose. Clay, with writing assistance from John Mayer, evokes an ethereal scope of love that becomes more accessible when it comes from the person one has in hindsight. The person downplaying their feelings here just needs a reason — or in Clay’s words, “a cause” to “swim home.”
Back in March, Clay shared with us what it was like working with Mayer. “It was great. He’s a really nice dude. He’s really approachable and very, very talented, as well.” He added, “I felt really comfortable working with him. It felt like the collaboration was real.”
Also in March, Clay released his Table of Context EP. It features singles “Reasons” and “Honest Enough.”
On August 9, Clay will be performing at the Outside Lands Festival. After a few more shows and festivals this and next month, he will embark on his Context Tour to support his new EP. Tickets are available on his official website.
