It’s been five years since the last time a FKA twigs album came out. All this is about change with the release of her new album titled Magdalene.
In a recent interview with i-D, Twigs details her upcoming album that she produced alongside Nicolas Jaar (The Weeknd) and additional studio associates. The title draws from the biblical figure Mary Magdalene. Twigs felt deeply connected to her story, professing that she found “a lot of dignity, a lot grace, a lot of inspiration” from her revered character.
Recorded at a “really fragile” time in her life, Twigs revealed that Magdalene will touch on “every lover I’ve ever had, and every love that I’m going to have.”
Twigs has recruited rapper Future for a “dark, sexy, witchy, trap tune” called “Holy Terrain.” She pitched the idea of them collaborating through a text message to him. Once she let Future hear a taste of the album, she briefed him on what she wanted him to deliver lyrical.
“I love sad Future. I love when he gets emo, when he expresses himself. It’s just so beautiful when he opens up,” Twigs explained.
With the release date for Magdalene still up in the air, Twigs has announced dates for her supporting tour. The string of shows starts at the Vogue Theatre on November 3 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Twigs will then make stops in major cities in the U.S. including Seattle, Chicago, Boston, and Brooklyn, New York. Tickets go on sale on September 6 at 10 a.m. local time.
