Stephen Bruner may be your favorite artist’s favorite musician but as Thundercat, his artistry is to be respected just the same. The multi-instrumentalist released his fourth studio album It Is What It Is via Brainfeeder Records.
The LP come three years after his genre-bending tour de force Drunk. For It Is What It Is, he enlists Childish Gambino, Ty Dolla $ign, Steve Lacy and Steve Arrington of funk group Slave for some notable features.
“This album is about love, loss, life and the ups and downs that come with that. It’s a bit tongue-in-cheek, but at different points in life you come across places that you don’t necessarily understand… some things just aren’t meant to be understood,” Thundercat stated in a press release.
If you’re not familiar with the awarded bassist, his most recognizable hit “Them Changes” was featured in season 1 of HBO’s Insecure.
