Toni Braxton is an undeniable force on the Billboard Adult R&B Airplay chart. The living legend has walked off with her 18th top 10 single, as “Do It” storms inside the top 10 region in its fourth week.
The love ballad is also in the top 10 rankings on the urban adult contemporary radio chart this week. It made history on the airplay format as her highest radio debut landmark of her solo career.
Speaking on the latest single, Braxton said, “I wrote this song about a year ago when a friend was going through the struggles of trying to end a relationship that wasn’t good for her.”
She continued, “We have all been through situations like this, when there is really nothing more to say, you know he’s not right and you just need to do what you need to do. There is also an element of hope in the song, that after you do what you need to do things will get better.”
“Do It” is the lead single from Braxton’s first Island Records album due later this year. The forthcoming LP serves as her first studio endeavor since 2018’s Grammy-nominated Sex & Cigarettes.
In April, Braxton’s career-defining album The Heat celebrated its 20th anniversary. Rated R&B revisited the R&B classic with commentary from Keri Lewis and Johntá Austin.
