It’s time to pop open some bubbly and celebrate Ms. Toni Braxton.
The living legend herself makes a return to the urban adult contemporary radio top 20, as her new single “Do It” arrives at No. 13. That makes Braxton’s new track from her first Island Records album the highest radio debut milestone of her solo career.
“I wrote this song about a year ago when a friend was going through the struggles of trying to end a relationship that wasn’t good for her,” said Braxton in a press statement about her new song. “We have all been through situations like this, when there is really nothing more to say, you know he’s not right and you just need to do what you need to do. There is also an element of hope in the song, that after you do what you need to do things will get better.”
Braxton’s last reached the number-one spot on this radio format with “Long As I Live.” Lifted from her 2018 album Sex & Cigarettes, the Grammy-nominated composition etched her first solo leader on urban AC radio since 2000’s “Just Be A Man About It.”
The Antonio Dixon-helmed track is the first offering from Braxton since announcing her return to the studio earlier this year. There is presently no official release date for her ninth solo album.
