A year after releasing his debut EP Dear BlackSheepe, Josh Dean has shared the first offering of 2020, and the first under his own independent imprint BLCKSHPE Recording Co. The dreamy love song is called “Impatient,” and it was produced by Russell Chell (Lil Nas X, Wiz Khalifa, G-Eazy).
Dean’s laid-back vocal style is enhanced by an acoustic guitar and a soothing ambiance that works for the message of romantic perseverance and restless pining.
In a statement, the singer-songwriter, who has landed songwriting and vocal placements on songs and albums for Janelle Monáe and Jidenna, shared the inspiration behind his new song.
“During a time of mass uncertainty and restlessness, maintaining and developing relationships of any kind can be difficult. ‘IMPATIENT’ is a song that encourages the importance of being patient with the ones we love,” he said. “If you allow it to, the state of impatience can teach you what’s worth the wait. It is the perseverance that yields growth in ways you never imagined.”
The previous Art Director at Monáe’s Wondaland Records also released a lyric video to accompany the new track. Watch it below.
