Lion Babe presents us with their offering of Mos Def’s classic song, “Umi Says.”
While the cover provides upbeat, dance-heavy energy, it shares a similar entrancing vibe with the original cut. The crashing hi-hats and funk guitar create a bright canvas for the smoothly calming vocals.
“The song inspired us to bring it new life, the message, however, remains the same. Freedom for Black people,” they shared on Instagram. ”We are all finding our own ways to participate in the revolution and for us it is with music.”
The duo shared that the first two million streams on Spotify will be donated to the NAACP’s legal defense fund.
Their latest track “Can’t Get Enough” was released in May.
