Masego is going to have a reason to put his phone on airplane mode soon. The soul sensation puts stamps on his brand new single “Passport.” It serves as the leadoff to the forthcoming project, or what he describes as a concept EP to his self-termed genre traphousejazz.
For “Passport,” which is produced by sought-after hitmaker D’Mile, Masego weaves his singular vocal style through the tranquility of a Japanese-based instrumental that has undertones of bold R&B and hip-hop. The country-hopping lyrics are aimed at the versatile musician wanting to get away and immerse himself in different cultures, especially after feeling exhausted with the new normal of the world. He even borrows some language from Japanese culture to help him when he gets out of this town.
“Passport” follows Masego previous 2020 solo release “Veg Out (Wasting Thyme).” Since his BET Awards debut this year, the skillful multi-instrumentalist has been on his feature grind. He has appeared on songs with the likes of Sinead Harnett and Alex Isley.
Masego also recently re-issued his song “Tadow” after a spike in listens, thanks to TikTok.
In 2018, Masego shared his debut album Lady Lady. It won critical acclaim by many critics, including Rated R&B, finding a strong position on our year-end best R&B albums list in 2018.
