While Summer Walker explored Life On Earth, Mario just got Closer to Mars on his new EP that is out now.
Wasting no time to get to his destination, Mario opens the project with “Mars,” an intimate tune that compares lovemaking to traveling to another planet. “Pretty Mouth Magick,” is one of the highlights of the EP, where the Baltimore native boasts about his bedroom skills.
“He can’t love you like I do / She won’t touch you like I do / They can’t fuck you like I do / Try it baby, put us on the same room,” he sings over a bouncy production that was crafted by Grammy Award-winning duo Ayo N Keyz, along with Cee B.
Speaking on Closer to Mars, Mario said, “I’m excited about this project, but I’m more excited about the journey that I’m on right now as an artist. I recently found out that the name ‘Mario’ actually means Mars in Latin and this current time period that we’re in is the closest our planet has been to Mars in over 20 years, so it just amazes me as to how my intentions match the times we are in.”
He added, “I’ve always used metaphors and creative phrases in my lyrical expression. Now I’m beginning to dive deeper into the cinematic and directorial part of my expression. I co-directed both ‘Mars’ and ‘Pretty Mouth Magic,’ and I hope the world enjoys them.”
Closer to Mars comes two years after Mario’s previous album, Dancing Shadows.
