R&B newcomer Gabrielle Lynn has unleashed a self-acceptance anthem titled “Change A Thing,” produced by DeMario “RioTheyNeedaHit” Bridges.
The accompanying video, directed by Reginald “Regg” Smith, shows Lynn enjoying the simple things life has to offer. “Growing up, I was rarely around people with the same skin color as me,” Lynn tells Rated R&B. “In the suburbs and going to suburban schools, I was often reminded that I was different whether it was hearing, ‘My parents said I can’t come to your party because you’re black,’ ‘I would never like a black girl’ or ‘your hair is nappy,’ and the list goes on.”
She adds, “As a kid that can take a toll on your confidence. So eventually I found myself wanting to be something I wasn’t and that lasted up until my high school years and surely still received comments into my adulthood. But after having my daughters, I realized that I had to be a strong, confident role model for my kids and decided to take the long journey to self-love and acceptance to reach where I am now. Although I am always evolving, I wouldn’t change anything.”
“Change A Thing” is lifted from Lynn’s upcoming eponymous EP, Gabrielle. It will serve as the follow-up to her Irresistible EP, which dropped in March.
