Rather than simply release a new album before the year ends, J. Holiday feeds his fans with a mixtape titled Baecation. This solid 14-track effort starts out the gate with his sweet-sounding tenor at the forefront of the opening track “Don’t Wanna Lose.”
The D.C. native has perfected his formula for creating baby-making music on songs like “Why You Came” and “On Your Body.” Holiday also rides the wave of trendy midtempo R&B on cuts like “Magic,” while exercising his vocals on the acoustic front on “Hydro.”
The new project offers his fans a taste of nostalgia, including newly re-recorded versions of his hit singles “Bed” and “Suffocate.”
Baecation is a holdover project, as Holiday readies his first album since 2014’s Guilty Conscience. The upcoming album Time is slated for release next year, with the LP’s lead single “Ride” dropping next month.
