After breaking her musical silence in August with “Lost One,” Jazmine Sullivan follows up with a new track titled “Pick Up Your Feelings.”
While Sullivan tried to salvage a failing relationship on “Lost One,” she ultimately realizes that she is better off moving on with her life on her latest release. Just like Bernadine Harris in the iconic film Waiting to Exhale, Sullivan is ready for her unfaithful lover to take all his things – including any feelings and memories from the relationship – and go about his business.
“Boy please, I don’t need, you / Memories, all that shit, you can keep it / Don’t forget to come and pick up your, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh feelings / Don’t leave no pieces,” Sullivan bluntly sings.
“Pick Up Your Feelings” was co-written by Sullivan and Nova Wave (Beyoncé, Rihanna, Mary J. Blige).
“I don’t really work with a lot of songwriters a lot but I heard the demo and was like, ‘I need this flavor on my project,'” Sullivan said in an interview with media personality Claudia Jordan during a virtual press conference for the 2020 Soul Train Awards. “I went and sang it and it was so good. I was so glad I stepped outside of my comfort zone to work with different writers.”
“Lost One” and “Pick Up Your Feelings” will appear on Sullivan’s forthcoming project, which she confirmed is set to arrive later this winter via RCA Records. It will follow the Philadelphia native’s critically-acclaimed 2015 album, Reality Show.
Sullivan is set to perform both tracks at the Soul Train Awards, which airs on Sunday, November 29 at 8 p.m. ET on BET.
