Following the official trailer’s release for The United States vs. Billie Holiday, new music inspired by the film has been shared. “All of Me,” performed by Andra Day, who portrays Holiday in the Hulu original movie, is the lead single from the forthcoming soundtrack.
The original version of the jazz love song was famously remade by Lady Day in 1941. The updated rendition, crafted by a swinging full-band arrangement, was deftly produced and arranged by Salaam Remi.
The United States vs. Billie Holiday will release exclusively on Hulu on February 26. Directed by Lee Daniels and written by Suzan-Lori Parks, the film documents Holiday’s fight against federal agents who worked tirelessly to escalate and racialize the war on drugs, with intentions to cease her future performances of her controversial ballad “Strange Fruit.”
Day is already receiving early flowers for her role in the film. On February 2, she will receive esteemed recognition at the Critics Choice Association’s third annual Celebration of Black Cinema for her portrayal of the jazz titan. She is also receiving Oscar buzz for Best Actress at the 2021 ceremony.
