After a couple of postponements, Ashanti and Keyshia Cole’s highly-anticipated Verzuz battle has a new and final date.
According to Verzuz, the battle is now set for Thursday, January 21 at 8 p.m. ET. “RAIN, SLEET, HAIL, SNOW LET’S GO 🙌🏽 Join us Thursday, January 21st as we kick off the first #VERZUZ of 2021 with @Ashanti and @KeyshiaCole. Thank you everyone for being patient with us. We can’t wait for this magical night with Keyshia and Ashanti,” they said in an Instagram post.
The battle was originally set for December 12, 2020, until it was revealed that Ashanti had tested positive for COVID-19. Thus, it was rescheduled for January 9, 2021. With concerns about the growing number of COVID-19 cases in the nation, it was delayed again.
“This has been an emotional week. In addition, as COV1D-19 numbers continue to increase, safety is a top priority for us,” Verzuz said in a statement. “As much as we enjoy having everyone together in the same room, to protect the artists and everyone who works with us in putting the shows together, we’ll be going back to separate locations for a bit. We’re excited for the next few events, and look forward to getting back to the show in the coming weeks.
Cole’s longtime collaborator and esteemed music executive Ron Fair exclusively shared with Rated R&B that Cole was expected to premiere new music during Verzuz. He also teased about the studio sessions.
“I’m excited about it. We’ve done five-six vocals already down in my studio in Nashville and she’s killing it,” Fair shared to Rated R&B. “She’s figured out who she is to all her fans with the choice of songs on this record and it’s going to be extraordinarily satisfying.”
