Andra Day is pushing the upcoming film release of The United States vs. Billie Holiday with more new music.
The gifted vocalist has shared a breathtaking rendition of “Strange Fruit,” Holiday’s controversial jazz tune that explicitly confronted the death of Blacks by racial terror lynching. The song, which white supremacists considered problematic to society, narrates the Lee Daniels-directed drama.
Already released from The United States vs. Billie Holiday soundtrack is Day’s remake of “All of Me.” It, too, was produced by super producer Salaam Remi. The release date for the forthcoming compilation has yet to be determined.
The United States vs. Billie Holiday, with Day starring as Lady Day, will debut exclusively on Hulu on February 26. This powerful biographical drama depicts Holiday’s life as she attempts to fight federal agents who work tirelessly to escalate and racialize the war on drugs, with intentions to cease her future performances of the moving “Strange Fruit.”
