The road to Serpentwithfeet’s next album, Deacon, gets shorter. The genre-blending artist has released a new track titled “Same Size Shoe.”
The soft R&B song hears the Baltimore-born artist’s dreamy soul bleeding through a lush-focused production to share his dating preference. Serpentwithfeet notes in a press release, “I prefer to date and love on Black men. I don’t want to be with anyone who can’t go to my barber or walk a mile in my shoes.”
“Same Size Shoe” feeds the soul of Black men, within the LGBTQ+ community, who desire to experience unabashed love with another Black man. His illustrative voice and add-ins of Black English used in everyday speaking to spread good news make this an instant favorite.
Serpentwithfeet’s new song follows the album’s delightful lead offering “Fellowship.” It featured Sampha and Lil Silva and arrived with a music video.
Deacon is out on March 26 via Secretly Canadian. It arrives nearly a year after his three-song EP titled Apparition and three years since his Soil debut in 2018. The new record will also feature Nao.
“I originally approached this project wanting to make something that felt very sensuous. Something a lot softer, a lot more gentle than my previous work,” serpent said about the new album. “I wanted to create something that felt calm and restrained. This was my way of tapping into the energy many deacons possess.”
