Chlöe, one-half of Chloe x Halle, makes her solo introduction with her debut single titled “Have Mercy.” She first shared a snippet of the track on her 23rd birthday (July 1).
Over a twerk-worthy production, which Chlöe co-created with Murda Beatz, Joseph L’Étranger, BoogzDaBeast and FnZ, the 23-year-old boasts about having a man hooked on her derriere.
“You can’t get this thickness out of your mind / He say he like that Laffy Taffy / He so goofy, call me daddy / He go stupid, he go daffy, introduce me to his papi,” she sings.
“Have Mercy” arrives with a Karena Evans-directed video, which can be viewed below.
On September 12, Chlöe will perform “Have Mercy” for the first time on live television at the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards. She will then perform at H.E.R.’s Lights On Festival in Brooklyn, New York, in October.
“Have Mercy” will appear on Chlöe’s forthcoming debut album that will release on Parkwood Entertainment/Columbia Records. In an interview with Billboard, Chlöe mentioned that she started working on her album while her sister Halle was overseas filming the live-action version of The Little Mermaid. (Halle will star as Ariel.)
Chlöe also shared her biggest goal for her first album. “Of course, I wanna get some hits with this project. That’s always a fun thing. But I just wanna have fun and let people get to see the real me,” she shared with Billboard.
