Robin Thicke has enlisted Grammy-nominated rapper Rapsody for his new song “Day One Friend.”
What starts as a beautiful strings orchestra, turns into a straight-ahead mid-tempo jam where Rapsody blends in nicely with an ill flow that depicts the tight bond she’s created over the years with a best pal.
Where Thicke is concerned, he possesses a warm, sincere voice and breathes lines of loyalty and responsiveness to the needs of his friends that have stayed down from the beginning.
In an Instagram post, Thicke shared why he dedicated “Day One Friend” to Uptown Records Founder and cultural icon Andre Harrell, who died in 2020.
“The song is dedicated to @AndreHarrell, my mentor and day one friend who taught me everything he knew and made my soul richer, my life better and my journey much more fun and fabulous!” wrote Thicke.

This time last year, Thicke ended his eight-year hiatus and released his much-awaited album On Earth, and in Heaven. The LP received tons of praise from critics, including Rated R&B, where it placed among the 30 Best R&B Albums of 2021 on its year-end list.
As for album’s singles, “Look Easy,” which he dedicated to frontline works at the height of the pandemic, topped the Billboard Adult R&B Airplay chart for two consecutive weeks.
Music aside, Thicke is currently a panelist on FOX’s The Masked Singer and recently starred on episode seven of I Can See Your Voice.
