The demand for this year’s inaugural Blue Note Jazz Festival Napa Valley is overwhelming. A third date has been added to its original two-day schedule, kicking off July 29 at the Charles Krug Winery in St. Helen, California. Chaka Khan will headline night one.
The music icon will run through her decorated, decades-spanning catalog as a solo artist and part of Rufus featuring Chaka Khan. Her last album, Hello Happiness, pays tribute to dance and club music. She could preview new material on Sono Recording Group (SRG/ILS), her new label home.
Production genius Kamasi Washington is performing Friday night twice. He’ll be playing his own set while alternating as Dinner Party as part of the residency with its members Terrace Martin and Robert Glasper. Rap legend Snoop Dogg, who performed during the Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show with Mary J. Blige and many others, will join Dinner Party.
Alex Isley, who recently performed at this year’s Leimert Park Juneteenth Festival, is set to perform. She will likely dedicate a significant portion of her setlist to Marigold, her new album.
