Emerging singer bLAck pARty has returned with Hummingbird, his third studio album, via Childish Gambino’s Wolf + Rothstein/RCA Records. It follows his 2019 album, Endless Summer.
Hummingbird‘s previously shared singles, “Hotline” and “On My Way,” arrived with some type of visual. The first was unrolled with its official video, and a live performance accompanied the second.
bLAck pARty recruited a host of guest stars for Hummingbird, including his label head Childish Gambino, Kari Faux, Saba, DMP Jefe, Zoe, Jean Deaux, and Gwen Bunn. The latter co-star, who recently released her album Phase, appears on “Soakin,” first released in October 2021 as part of his Birds & Bees two-pack.
BlackSamurai, Lido, Amaire Johnson, Rumeal Eggleston, Willy “Will” Yanez, Beat Butcha and many more worked behind the board on Hummingbird. bLAck pARty’s father and Yanez also co-wrote “On My Way.”
Of Hummingbird, bLAck pARty shares, “Come along with me, grab your headphones on a music journey – we’re going on the flight of the hummingbird. The album is a journey about self-love, romantic love and parental love. It represents the evolution of human experience, and I hope the listener finds the full spectrum of emotion from heartbreak to finding self-confidence to sheer joy while listening.”
In tandem with the new album, bLAck pARty shared the official video for “I Love You More Than You Know” featuring Childish Gambino. It was co-directed by Manny Singh.
To support Hummingbird, bLAck pARty is going on the road with Sabrina Claudio for her Based On A Feeling World Tour. He’ll be on the multi-date trek from Aug. 25 until Oct. 21. Tickets are available now.
Before he tags along with Claudio, bLAck pARty is scheduled to play at this year’s Format Festival in Bentonville, Arkansas. He performs on Sept. 24, day two of the three-day event.
