R&B newcomer Forest Claudette has dropped off his new track, “Hologram.” It’s the third taste from his forthcoming debut EP, The Year of February, out Sept. 30 on Warner Records.
With production from Chris Hartz (Kyle Dion, bLAck pARty), “Hologram” finds Claudette reflecting on his journey as a rising artist.
“Doing my best to wait patient / But I got their attention / Desperate to see what comes out it / Maybe learn a lesson / Get up and do it all again / With twice the focused effort I just hope it’s worth the friend’s I cut off trynna clear my head,” he sings in a rap cadence, proving that his sound is boundless.
Speaking on his new track, Claudette says, “For me ‘Hologram’ is about time, the ways in which I lost my sense of reality and the state of self-defined ‘limbo’ I was in as I waited to put out music.”
He adds, “I was in L.A. for the first time and part of me couldn’t shake the feeling that I didn’t deserve to be there,” he says. “I fell down rabbit holes trying to justify my artistic existence to myself.”
As noted, “Hologram” is the third track pulled from Claudette’s debut EP. It’s the follow-up to his smooth debut single “Creaming Soda” and his lovesick tune “Gone Without a Trace.”
Of the latter track, Claudette revealed, “I wrote it after a relationship ended when I was heartbroken. Having so long to reflect on the song was interesting and I think that helped shape it into what you hear now. We got to focus on how it left us feeling, and the nuances of the experience.”
