SZA has gained another award from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Her 2014 track “Childs Play” featuring Chance the Rapper has been certified gold.
The Dae One and XXYYXX-produced track has sold more than 500,000 equivalent units.
The slow-burning tune is lifted from SZA’s first proper EP, Z, which debuted at No. 39 on the Billboard 200 during the week of April 26, 2014.
“Childs Play” is the first song from Z to receive an RIAA certification.
SZA, who gained nine new RIAA certifications in August, scored a couple more this month. She received a platinum certification for her feature on Post Malone’s “Staring at the Sun.”
Plus, her collaboration with Doja Cat “Kiss Me More” has moved to 5x multi-platinum. The latter tune, which earned SZA and Doja Cat their first Grammy this year, is now halfway to diamond status (10 million equivalent units).
“Thank you to Doja. Thank you to my momma. Thank you, God, and just thanks to all of y’all,” SZA said during her brief acceptance speech.
SZA is scheduled to appear on Saturday Night Live as a musical guest on Dec. 3. Keke Palmer is set to host.
According to a recent Billboard interview, SZA is also slated to release her highly anticipated sophomore album, S.O.S., in December. Although an official tracklist has not been revealed, the album is expected to include SZA’s latest single “Shirt.”
The Rodney Jerkins-produced track is No. 6 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs chart and No. 63 on the Billboard Hot 100, at the time of publication. (It debuted at No. 11 on the latter chart.)
SZA’s upcoming album will follow her critically acclaimed debut album, Ctrl, which turned five in June. SZA celebrated the album’s anniversary by releasing Ctrl (Deluxe), which featured seven unreleased tracks, including an alternate version of her 5x multi-platinum single “Love Galore.”
