NBC Universal and Bravo have released the official trailer for its new six-episode limited series SWV & Xscape: The Queens of R&B.
The series is set to premiere on Bravo on Sunday, March 5, at 9:30 p.m. ET.
SWV & Xscape: The Queens of R&B is loosely inspired by their Verzuz in 2021 and follows the women of the legendary R&B groups as they come together to give fans a special one-night-only concert.
According to a press release, the legendary R&B groups “will take viewers on the ultimate fan experience as they reveal the inner workings of putting on a live concert and expose the discord and complex dynamics of sisterhood within singing groups —such as the bombshell revelation of the Scott sisters’ dark secret, which threatens to tear their family apart and drive a wedge between Xscape.”
In terms of putting on a concert, everything that can go wrong goes wrong to get them on one stage, from “set design and setlists, to epic battles over which group should headline,” as stated in the show’s official synopsis.
SWV & Xscape: The Queens of R&B was produced by Monami Productions, a full-service entertainment company founded by Mona-Scott Young, who also serves as an executive producer.
Xscape and SWV are familiar with unpacking drama within a group on television.
Xscape: Still Kickin’ It aired on Bravo in 2017. The show chronicled their reunion after several years apart for a comeback performance at the 2017 BET Awards.
As for SWV, in 2014, WE tv debuted a limited series titled SWV Reunited. In the show, SWV reconnected in support of a comeback tour following the Grammy-nominated success of “If You Only Knew” and its parent album, 2012’s I Missed Us. The series had two seasons.
Last year, Xscape was honored at the Soul Train Awards with the Lady of Soul award. In addition to performing at the star-studded ceremony, the ladies toured last fall, which included shows that did not feature LaTocha Scott, who’s readying a new album on Motown Gospel.
SWV celebrated the 30th anniversary of their 2x multi-platinum debut album, It’s About Time, last year.
Their last album, Still Here, was released in 2016 and featured two Billboard singles, “MCE (Man Crush Everyday)” and “Ain’t No Man.”
