Veteran trombonist and multi-instrumentalist Jeff Bradshaw has inked a deal that sees him joining SoNo Recording Group (SRG/ILS) in partnership with Music Matters Entertainment. He joins a roster that includes Chaka Khan, Ruben Studdard, Kenny Lattimore, Angie Stone, and more.
Claude Villani, founder and CEO of SRG/ILS Group, stated, “Jeff fits perfectly into our growing jazz and R&B family. He is a special talent with a solid career and an incredible future ahead of him.”
As part of the deal, Bradshaw, who has worked with artists such as John Legend, Jill Scott, Kindred the Family Soul, and Raheem DeVaughn, will release a new album Jeff Bradshaw: 20. The LP is set to arrive sometime this spring.
Aptly titled, Jeff Bradshaw: 20 will commemorate Bradshaw’s 20th year as a recording artist.
“Twenty years, man. It means to me, blessed, relevant, excited, young, and hungry. All those things I still am. I’m still going to create these beautiful songs and the trombone is going to play a different role in every song,” Bradshaw shared.
Speaking of songs, Bradshaw will release not one but two songs next month as part of the album campaign. “Carrie’s Bread Puddin” is said to be a tribute to his mother and catered to his jazz audience. Meanwhile, “Make Some Time,” featuring Eric Roberson, will give his R&B fans something to love.
“Carrie’s Bread Puddin” and “Make Some Time” will debut on May 19.
Bradshaw’s last album, Stronger, came out in 2020. The album included features from DeVaughn, Marsha Ambrosius, Glenn Lewis, Frank McComb, and many more.
Stronger‘s lead single, “Prototype,” featuring DeVaughn and Robert Glasper, was a remake of an André 3000 song from Outkast’s Grammy-winning double album Speakerboxx/The Love Below.
Before that, Bradshaw put out four additional albums, including his debut album, Bone Deep, which dropped in 2003.
Released on Hidden Beach Recordings, Bone Deep boasted appearances from Scott, Floetry, Bilal, Carol Riddick, and others.
Two other albums were released on Hidden Beach Recordings, Bone Appétit Vol. 1 (Main Course) and Bone Appétit Vol. 2 (Deuxieme Cours).
In 2015, Bradshaw made a live album, Home: One Special Night at the Kimmel Center. He recorded the record in his home state of Philadelphia.
Home, executive produced by Glasper, who also appears, had several special guests, including Roberson, Tweet, Black Thought, Najee, Kim Burrell, Bilal, and more.
In a 2015 interview with Rated R&B, Bradshaw shared the decision behind the title. “The biggest recording of my career thus far needed to be home in front of the people that have supported me all these years. It was only right to call it Home because that is where I was,” Bradshaw explained.
Bradshaw also mentioned what inspired him to release a live album. “People cannot feel your energy or your swag or how your music affects people in the studio. I wanted people to feel the energy and the spirit behind what I do,” he added.
Coming up for Bradshaw is a handful of shows. This June, he will play the Jazz Legacy Foundation – Summer Jazz 2 in Virginia Beach, Virginia,
On Aug. 19, Bradshaw will join Musiq Soulchild and Kindred the Family Soul for An Evening of Soul event at Mable House of Barnes Amphitheatre in Mableton, Georgia. Tickets are on sale now.
