The Amours, the R&B duo composed of Jakiya Ayanna and Shaina Aisha, has released their new single “Before I Met You.”
They co-wrote the endearing track with the song’s producer Camper, as well as Dave Hamlin and Harold Lilly, Jr.
Lilly has penned hits with legendary acts such as Alicia Keys (“You Don’t Know My Name”), Beyoncé (“Ego”), Brandy (“Talk About Our Love”) and Jamie Foxx (“Unpredictable“), among others.
On “Before I Met You,” The Amours sing about the transformative experience of discovering a new love. “And lately I’d wonder / Just who I was before / I met you, before I met you,” they sing over sunny instrumentation.
“We’re so grateful to everyone who was apart of this record! It’s special, man! We got one with one of the greatest storytellers in the world! It’s an honor to be apart of your legacy! Thank you, Harold,” The Amours wrote in an Instagram post.
They continued, “Camper, we love you brother! The people have no clue what more we have in store! All gas, no brakes! THE CAMP @theycallmecamper.”

“Before I Met You” follows The Amours’ previously released single “Don’t Deserve,” released in January. Camper produced that song as well.
Both songs will appear on The Amours’ upcoming EP, slated to arrive later this year. It will follow their debut EP, Mon Amour, released in 2019, via PJ Morton’s imprint Morton Records. Mon Amour featured their debut single “All the Time.”
The Amours performed at May J. Blige’s Strength of a Woman Festival in Atlanta, Georgia. The performance took place on Friday (May 12).
