Alt-R&B newcomer Jordan Ward has teamed with 6LACK for his new song “Mustard,” produced by Louie Lastic.
“Held it down for ten summers like Mustard, baby,” Ward sings in the chorus. It’s likely the song’s title takes inspiration from Mustard (formerly known as DJ Mustard), the acclaimed producer and founder of 10 Summers Records, the label home of Ella Mai.
On Thursday, 6LACK went to social media to discuss what this collaboration means to him. “This song reminds me of the summers i spent working on FREE 6LACK & [East Atlanta Love Letter],” he wrote on X, better known as Twitter. “Not only does the shit sound amazing (s/o to everyone who worked on it) but it just takes me back to some of the thoughts i carried before, during, and after working on those early projects.”
6LACK continued, “Those moments when the pressure was on & i had an opportunity to put something meaningful out into the world. and we did that shit, 3 albums, 1 EP, and a few hundred guest verses later… still here.”

“Mustard” is the first taste from Ward’s moreward(FORWARD), the deluxe edition of his debut album, FORWARD. The expanded project releases Aug. 25 on Interscope Records.
“FORWARD, not only pushing our sound and creativity, but pushing to evolve and break cycles,” Ward explained about the album’s title. “FOR WARD, a dedication to my family and our future. FOUR-WARD, my fourth project, but also a FOREWORD in my story being the debut album!”

It’s likely we’ll see Ward and 6LACK perform “Mustard” soon. Ward will support 6LACK on his headlining Since I Have A Lover World Tour beginning Oct. 19 through Nov. 24. (Ward’s upcoming tour dates are provided at the end of this article.)
