Janelle Monáe isn’t done popping bottles. The Grammy winner has recruited rappers Quavo and Latto for the official remix of “Champagne Sh*t.”
Production-wise, “Champagne Sh*t” is a similar story to the original edit, with newly-added ad-libs from Quavo nestled behind Monáe’s vocals.
Quavo spits braggadocious bars about celebrating his self-made wealth and sparing no expense to have a good night out. “Proud of the times when we came from the bottom / Right now I’m hot / It’s time to go harder / How we keep winnin’, because I’m a starter,” he raps.
Latto boasts about her persuasive nature with wealthy men in her verse. “How you get the lamb, b*tch, it’s all in the lips / All in the hips,” Latto spits in the opening lines.
The original version of “Champagne Sh*t” is taken from Monáe’s latest studio album, The Age of Pleasure. It has garnered over 7.7 million streams on Spotify, ranking amongst her most popular songs on the platform.
The Age of Pleasure was released on June 9 via Wonderland Arts Society/Atlantic Records.
The album includes guest appearances from Nigerian collective Sean Kuti and Egypt 80, as well as Grace Jones, Nia Long, Doechii, Amaarae and more.
The Age of Pleasure debuted at No. 2 on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart, selling 19,000 equivalent units in its opening week. Those sales contributed to Monáe scoring her third consecutive top five debut on the same chart.
Elsewhere, The Age of Pleasure debuted at No. 17 on the Billboard 200.
Months after its release, The Age of Pleasure produced Monáe’s second No. 1 R&B hit “Lipstick Lover,” which was the second single. It spent one week atop Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart.
A fun-filled video for “Water Slide” come ahead of Monáe’s No. 1 success for her recent single. The former song also appears on The Age of Pleasure.
Monáe is still supporting The Age of Pleasure on her headlining tour, which began in late August and ends in Oct. 18 in Inglewood, California.
