J. Valentine has returned with his new single “Thank Me For That” via R&B Money. It’s his first solo song since 2020.

On the acoustic-laden track, produced by Shawn Holmes, J. Valentine sings about building up an ex-lover only for someone else to benefit.

While it may come across as being self-centered, the song underscores how our experiences — both positive and negative — with past relationships can inform the direction we take in shaping our romantic journey forward.

“I see you doing all the little things you didn’t do before / I showed her / She might be your wife / Cooking and cleaning / Giving and pleasing / Potential, I seen it / But I realized I built you up for somebody else / And I’m the one who had it last / I know I had a big impact / Now she know how to throw that ass back / By the way you should thank me for that,” J. Valentine sings.

“Thank Me For That” is the first single from J. Valentine’s highly awaited debut album, Conversations With Women. He co-wrote the song with Shawn Holmes, Feather, and Daniel Morris.

As noted above, “Thank Me For That” is J. Valentine’s first solo track since releasing “Road Block” and “Love Me” in 2020.

Last year, J. Valentine joined Tank on his bedroom banger “Slow.”

The song, which appears on Tank’s final album, R&B Money, spent two weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart. Tank and J. Valentine, who also co-hosts the R&B Money Podcast, performed “Slow” at the 2022 Soul Train Awards.

It’s been over a decade since J. Valentine last released a project. On Feb. 14, 2012, he released an EP titled Love & Other Drugs.

The seven-song project included features from Chris Brown (“Bed Bath & Beyond”), LeToya Luckett (“I Do”) and Tank (“Cry 4 U”), among others.

In 2011, J. Valentine released his mixtape, The Testimony.
