Amazon Music’s Originals series has returned with its annual focus on holiday music. Grammy-nominated British singer and songwriter Jorja Smith is among the artists contributing to its growing list of festive tunes.
Smith uses her enchanting voice to update U.K. boy band East 17’s “Stay Another Day,” first released in 1994 and featured on their sophomore album, Steam.
“With our holiday Amazon Music Original tracks each year, we set out to create unique, special experiences for fans to mark the holidays with Amazon Music. It’s been really exciting to see how much fans enjoy them, and to see these songs hitting the charts, being performed on television around the world, and even achieving platinum and gold certifications,” says Stephen Brower, Amazon Music’s global co-lead, artist relations.
Bower adds, “This year, we have the opportunity to feature a number of Amazon Music Original songs in special Prime Video films and series to exclusively surface new music to the world and turn these tracks into moments that will live on in our nostalgia.”
Smith is not the only R&B/soul artist contributing this year to Amazon Music’s collection of holiday songs. Chlöe has covered two tracks, including one made famous by soul icon Otis Redding.
Circling back to Smith, she recently released her sophomore album, falling or flying. It came out on Sept. 29 via FAMM.
Several singles, including “GO GO GO” and “Little Things,” preceded the album.
Smith performed a medley of the latter track as well as the emotive titular track on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
“This album is like my brain. There’s always so much going on but each song is definitely a standstill moment,” Smith explained of the falling or flying.
She added, “It touches on breakups, relationships with my friends, relationships with old friends, relationships with myself. It’s definitely about a lot of relationships, but every song I write I can sing it to myself.”
Smith has started her sold-out tour in the UK in support of her album, falling or flying.
She will be performing at O2 Academy Birmingham tonight, followed by a show at Albert Hall in Manchester on Nov. 9. The tour concludes with her final performance at Troxy in London on Nov. 10.
