Jorja Smith has unveiled her latest offering, “Falling or flying,” alongside a music video.
On the sultry track, helmed by production duo DAMEDAME*, Smith sings about a risky love affair. “If you want this to be real, then show me you want me / Don’t play it safe with me,” she sings.
In the song’s final 25 seconds, Smith creates a stadium anthem vibe, as if she is encouraging crowd participation.
Smith made her directorial debut by directing the official video for “Falling or Flying,” as stated in a press release.
Of the video concept, Smith said, “Came to mind ‘cause i always wanted to shoot a video in space. ‘Falling Or flying’ just made me think of that. I wanted to go up into space with someone I love and cherish, but they didn’t want to come with me.”
“Falling or Flying” is the title track from Smith’s second album, which will be released on Sept. 29 through FAMM. She recorded the album in her hometown of Walsall, England over a two-year period.
Regarding Falling or Flying, Smith explained, “This album is like my brain. There’s always so much going on but each song is definitely a standstill moment.”
She continued, “It touches on breakups, relationships with my friends, relationships with old friends, relationships with myself. It’s definitely about a lot of relationships, but every song I write I can sing it to myself.”
Fans can experience Falling or Flying in multiple ways. The album will be available in multiple formats, including CD, cassette, and digital streaming and download from online music retailers. Additionally, it will be available in vinyl and picture disc editions. For more information, visit Smith’s official website.
Smith is set to embark on a limited engagement tour later this month in support of Falling or Flying. The four-date run spans across the U.K. and Europe.
