Summer Walker has added a new nomination to her portfolio this week.
CLEAR 2: Soft Life, a continuation of Walker’s 2019 EP CLEAR, earns the singer and songwriter her first Best R&B Album nomination at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards.
This marks her first career solo nomination, and her second overall, since she became active in 2018.
Walker’s Best R&B Album nomination comes a year after her disappointment that her massive 2021 sophomore album, Still Over It, and its releases were not nominated at the 2023 ceremony.

“Thanks for all the overflowing love in my dm’s… & as for the grammys for a 2nd time, the main is literally not mathing… I was gone post some numbers but it’s okay, atleast the streets fuq with me,” Walker wrote in a since-expired pair of Instagram stories. “Y’all always pack out every show & support everytime I drop so thanks for the love I do receive.”
In terms of Walker’s emphasis on the second time around, her blockbuster 2019 debut album, Over It, was also omitted from the batch of nominations in 2021.
Let’s circle back to CLEAR 2: Soft Life. The Grammys nominated Walker for the second time in an album category.
She was previously recognized for his guest feature on Kendrick Lamar’s 2022 album, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, which was up for Album of the Year.
CLEAR 2: Soft Life was released on May 19 via LVRN/Interscope Records. The news of its release was first shared toward the end of her set at this year’s Dreamville Festival in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Nine tracks are included on CLEAR 2: Soft Life, with a feature from Childish Gambino and another from J. Cole. Solange, Steve Lacy and John Kirby also produced “Agayu’s Revelation,” the closing song.
“I wouldn’t call it a continuation of CLEAR, like the first one ’cause the first one was kinda said…and I’m in a different space, so this one is more like, happy. This [is] just a continuation in the sense of the music ’cause it’s all live,” said Walker in a previous statement.
CLEAR 2 debuted at No. 4 on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart, marking her sixth top 10 entry on this same chart. The EP also entered at No. 26 on the Billboard 200 chart.
The 66th Grammy Awards will air live on CBS Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024, at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT from Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California. The show will also stream live and be on demand on Paramount+.
Recently, Walker secured three No. 1s on various radio formats with Usher’s “Good Good” featuring 21 Savage. It is part of Usher’s upcoming ninth studio album, Coming Home, which is set to be released on Feb. 11, 2024.
On Nov. 16, Walker will receive a special honor at ASCAP’s 15th annual Women Behind The Music ceremony, presented by ASCAP’s Rhythm & Soul department.
