Grammy-winning singer, songwriter and musician PJ Morton has announced his new book, Saturday Night, Sunday Morning: Staying True to Myself from the Pews to the Stage.

The life-spanning memoir is set to release Nov. 12 via Worthy Publishing, an imprint of Hachette Book Group.

According to press materials, Saturday Night, Sunday Morning sees Morton “recounting and reflecting upon a journey that continues to defy expectations and straddle the tensions of music and faith, race and culture, expression and identity.”

Morton, the son of two pastors and gospel artists, grew up in church, singing gospel music, which laid the foundation of his sound. Over time, the New Orleans native became captivated by R&B and pop, blending them into his music to forge his own sound.

He would later launch his independent label, Morton Records, where he released six self-produced albums, including the Grammy-nominated Gumbo and Gumbo Unplugged (Live), and the Grammy-winning Gospel According to PJ.

The book’s description further adds: “A pioneer blazing his own path, he developed an independent sound without even knowing what that was in an industry he didn’t fully understand, setting the way for artists who follow him. Saturday Night, Sunday Morning captures his powerful, courageous journey of combining his two worlds, showing readers how to overcome obstacles as they seek their own dreams.”

Before Morton’s book arrives, fans can enjoy a new album that’s on the way. The lead single, “Please Be Good,” releases Friday (Feb. 24).

Morton’s upcoming album was written and recorded during his 30-day trip to Africa last fall. The album features collaborations with local musicians across South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana and Egypt.

In other news, Morton recently took home his fifth Grammy at the 2024 ceremony. His Susan Carol-assisted single “Good Morning” won Best Traditional R&B Performance.
