Victoria Monét has achieved her first solo award from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
Her Grammy-nominated single “On My Mama” is now certified platinum, with over one million equivalent units sold. It’s Monét’s second RIAA certification, following her appearance on Machine Gun Kelly’s “A Little More,” certified gold in 2020 with 500,000 equivalent units sold.
“On My Mama” was co-produced by Deputy, Jeff “Gitty” Gitelman and D’Mile. It was released as the third single from Monét’s Grammy-winning debut album, JAGUAR II.
“‘On My Mama’ is the soundtrack to positive affirmations. I wrote it postpartum when I wasn’t feeling my best, but spoke to how I wanted to feel. Singing the lyrics about yourself will change your frequency, and elevate a positive mental state,” Monét explained.
She added, “The words speak not only to physical features, but to a feeling too because I believe when you feel good you look even better! Give yourself the words you need to hear because it’s true, you look good! There’s no one like you and that’s on ya mama. Enjoy being yourself witcha fine ass!”
At the time of publication, “On My Mama” is the most-streamed song from JAGUAR II on Spotify, with 89.8 million streams.
The accompanying video, choreographed by Sean Bankhead, has over 41 million views on YouTube. It’s Monét’s most-watched video on YouTube to date.
Last week, “On My Mama” rose to No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart, becoming Monét’s first leader on that chart.
Monét, who was recently honored at Billboard’s Women In Music, is set to perform at a few festivals this year. In April, she will make her debut at Coachella in Indio, California. Then, in June, she will perform at Roots Picnic in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Governors Ball in Queens, New York.
