Muni Long has taken command of another airplay format. Her blazing single “Made For Me” moves to No. 1 this week at rhythmic radio.
The sentimental song received 5,243 spins (March 31 – April 6), an increase of 822 plays from the week prior, with 12.75 million audience impressions.
“Made For Me” has now claimed the throne of three radio formats: rhythmic, urban, and R&B. The song first went No. 1 on the latter format last December, becoming Long’s first chart-topper at R&B radio.
In March, the track produced by Jermaine Dupri, Bryan-Michael Cox, and Jordan XL, reached No. 1 at urban radio; it marked Long’s second visit to the top of the summit.
On Billboard’s Rhythmic Airplay chart this week, led by Jack Harlow’s “Lovin On Me,” Long’s “Made For Me” is No. 3. Elsewhere, “Made For Me” is No. 1 for a 10th week on the R&B Digital Song Sales chart.
“Made For Me” is the first single from Long’s upcoming album, which will be released on Def Jam Recordings. At this time, there are no other details about the project.
In an interview with Genius, Long shared the story behind creating “Made For Me.”
“I really want people to understand how epic the musical production side of this song really is. It is strong. I started ‘Made for Me’ at home with Jelli [Dorman], who is one of the engineers I work with. It was just piano vocal. So we took it to JD and Brian-Michael Cox, and they actually produced the record,” shared Long. “Shout out to them for believing in a young artist. JD was like, ‘I’m telling you, I’m telling you this record is a monster.’ And I was like, ‘All right JD.’ He just texted me this morning and was like, ‘I be knowing. I told you so.’ He was right. I’m gonna give you that.”
This summer, Long will support Chris Brown on select dates of The 11:11 Tour.
Before she hits the road, Long will perform at the inaugural TwoGether Land Festival in Dallas, Texas, in May. The festival’s lineup also includes Dru Hill, Lil Wayne, Amerie, Summer Walker, Kenyon Dixon, Alex Isley, and more.
