Rising singer Shantel May has teamed up with R&B heartthrob Tone Stith for her new single “5 Minutes.”
Produced by Kenneth “KP” Paige, “5 Minutes” hears the two singers cherishing the brighter moments of a complicated love — even if it’s just a few minutes of delight.
“I’d rather you just lead me on / Instead of us just letting go / I’ve never felt a love this strong / If it’s only for a moment / I’m gon’ spend it with you,” they harmonize in the chorus.
Speaking on “5 Minutes,” Stith notes, “These two people don’t get along, and it just doesn’t work. When they do get along, though, it’s really good. So if it’s only five minutes, I’ll take it.”
May adds, “I’m thrilled to share ‘5 Minutes’ with everyone. It’s a song that means a lot to me, and working with Tone Stith has been an amazing experience. I hope listeners feel the connection and emotion we’ve put into this track.”
“5 Minutes” is the follow-up to May’s summer-ready track “Love It Here,” which features rapper Lola Brooke. The song samples The Isley Brothers’ classic “Footsteps in the Dark.”
“I immediately fell in love with the Isley sample and knew it would be dope,” May said. “The topic was bang on for me at the time, so it was easy to connect/have fun with. I think the girls gon’ like this one.”
She added, “It feels familiar but also new, which is something I think I identify with a lot as an R&B artist, who mostly listens to throwbacks. This is my first female feature and Lola’s vibe fits perfectly.”
“5 Minutes” is Tone Stith’s fourth collaboration of the year. He previously appeared on Jaz Karis’ “Met You at a Bar,” Eric Bellinger’s “Top Tier” and PxRRY’s “You Don’t Call Me” with Jon Vinyl.
