Ledisi has scored her first award from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
The Grammy winner’s 2011 single “Pieces of Me” is now certified gold. It has sold over 500,000 equivalent units.
Ledisi co-wrote the empowering anthem with the song’s producers, Claude Kelly and Chuck Harmony, who are also known as Louis York.
In 2011, she told NPR, “‘Pieces of Me’ is celebrating being a full woman. I’m becoming a great woman that I adore.”
“Pieces of Me” peaked at No. 2 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart, making it Ledisi’s first of eight top 10 hits on the chart. The song also reached No. 19 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and No. 23 on the Heatseekers Songs charts.
On Spotify, “Pieces of Me” has over 15.7 million streams and is the most-played song from its parent album of the same name. Meanwhile, the official video has surpassed 18 million views on YouTube.
In 2012, at the 54th Grammy Awards, Ledisi received two nominations for “Pieces of Me,” including Best R&B Song and Best R&B Performance. The album also landed a Best R&B Album nod.
As mentioned above, “Pieces of Me” appears on Ledisi’s 2011 album of the same name. Released June 14, 2011, the project also includes the singles “Stay Together” featuring Jaheim and “Bravo.” Claude Kelly co-wrote and co-produced the latter song with Jon Jon Traxx.
Pieces of Me opened at No. 2 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The LP also debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200, which remains Ledisi’s highest charting album on the popular albums chart.
In 2019, Rated R&B highlighted Pieces of Me on its 50 Best R&B Albums of the 2010s list.
Since then, Ledisi has released five other studio albums, including her most recent album, Good Life, which was released March 1, 2024.
Of the album, Ledisi told Rated R&B, “Good Life is a celebration of life’s joy, love, and resilience. It captures unique moments in a musical journey that mirrors the human experience. Join me in finding beauty in our shared humanity through every note and lyric.”
Good Life includes the No. 1 single “I Need To Know,” as well as “Sell Me No Dreams” and the “Perfect Stranger” duet with Kenny Lattimore.
Last week, Ledisi collaborated with Eric Benét on his Duets project for the song “Right Time.”
