Muni Long has achieved her first-ever No. 1 hit on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart this week (dated Aug. 17).
Her current single, “Make Me Forget,” moves from No. 3 to No. 1 on the airplay chart, ending October London‘s two-week streak with “Mulholland Drive.”
Long has come close to winning the top title since her Adult R&B chart debut in February 2022. Her previous solo best was “Made For Me,” which peaked at No. 2 in December 2023 and spent 39 weeks on the chart.
Following closely is “Hrs and Hrs,” another viral single that reached No. 2 in May 2022.
Here is a breakdown of all of Muni Long’s appearances on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart, in order by total number of weeks on the chart:
- “Made For Me,” No. 2 peak, 39 weeks
- “Hrs and Hrs,” No. 2 peak, 27 weeks
- “Honey,” a duet with John Legend, No. 4 peak, 21 weeks
- “Make Me Forget,” No. 1 for one week so far, 9 weeks and counting
On the R&B radio chart, monitored by Mediabase, “Make Me Forget” is in this week’s No. 1 spot, also replacing London’s “Mulholland Drive.” The soul-stirring tune joins the platinum-seller “Made For Me” as Long’s only two visits atop R&B radio.
“Make Me Forget” was produced by Tricky Stewart, MOMBRU, and Jehreeus, and features an interpolation of D’Angelo‘s “Untitled (How Does It Feel).”
The single will appear on Long’s upcoming sophomore album, Revenge, set to release Aug. 30 via Supergiant Records/Def Jam Recordings.
In press materials, Long describes “Make Me Forget” as a “warm bath” and a “love letter.” She adds, “It says, ‘You’re not perfect perfect. We’ve got a lot of things to work on, but can we focus on the amazing feeling we have when we’re together?'”
The Grammy winner’s other current single, “Ruined Me,” which she debuted on Chris Brown‘s successful 11:11 Tour and was formally released on July 26, will also appear on Revenge.
Revenge is the follow-up to Long’s 2022 debut project, Public Displays of Affection: The Album, which was featured on Rated R&B’s 30 Best R&B Albums of 2022 list.
Long described Revenge as a deeply personal project. “The record is definitely my story. I’m focusing on my journey, on elevating and growing as an artist. It’s so much deeper than simply writing songs. It’s therapeutic for me to get all my thoughts out,” she said.
She added, “I’ve been working towards this moment for 17 years. I’m stronger than I’ve ever been. I’m focused on healing and leaving a brightness wherever I go. From my perspective, I think I did a really great job of expressing how I feel in the music. It’s like one big diary entry.”
