Music icon Dionne Warwick will have a street in her hometown, East Orange, New Jersey, renamed after her later this fall.
East Orange Mayor Ted R. Green and the city council recently announced the street renaming. The celebration will take place Oct. 11 on North Arlington Ave. at City Hall Plaza in East Orange.
Regarding the honor, Green stated, “Dionne Warwick, a truly incomparable legend, has always been a source of pride for East Orange. Her extensive body of work as a musician and her legacy as a humanitarian is truly remarkable.”
He continued, “It is our honor to commemorate her enduring legacy with this street renaming right in the vibrant heart of our Arts District, where her influence will continue to inspire and uplift the next generation of talented artists each and every day.”
Warwick is equally pleased with the recognition. “I almost forgot to tell you all. My hometown will be renaming a street in my honor on October 11th at East Orange City Hall. This Jersey girl is so thrilled and grateful!” wrote the five-time Grammy winning singer on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Warwick, a current resident of South Orange, New Jersey, has her name recognized elsewhere in the community where she was born and raised.
The Dionne Warwick Institute of Entrepreneurship and Economics is situated on Central Avenue in East Orange. The magnet school, formerly known as Lincoln School, was renamed after Warwick in 1997, and it is also where she attended school some years ago.
In other news, Warwick has other accolades coming up this year, adding to her notable commendations from SoundExchange, the Kennedy Center Honors, and Urban One in the last year.
Warwick is part of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame class of 2024 and is set to receive the Musical Excellence Award.
This award is “given to artists, musicians, songwriters and producers whose originality and influence creating music have had a dramatic impact on music.” She will joined by fellow inductees Jimmy Buffett, MC5, and Norman Whitfield.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony will be streamed live on Disney+ on Saturday, Oct. 19, from the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio. The induction event will air on ABC at a later date and will be available on Hulu on Sunday, Oct. 20.
