R&B sensation Muni Long made headlines as she performed “Ruined Me” on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last Thursday night.
Dressed in a silver chained dress by La Roxx, Long sits at a cocktail table, mascara running, flipping through the daily paper to find that she is the cover story.
The Grammy winner gives her backstory regarding the lead piece, delivering a stunning set with a band featuring Ashly, Kristal and Shyann of June’s Diary as backing vocalists.
“Ruined Me” is Long’s latest single from her recently released second album, Revenge. The soul-crushing ballad is at No. 17 in its second week on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart, debuting at No. 30.
Although Long’s Revenge album was completed and in the mixing phase, the song’s producer, Jeff “Gitty” Gitelman, played a part in getting it included on the tracklist, as he exclusively told Rated R&B.
“She’s like, ‘Gitty. If we could get the stems over, this could actually be on the album, even though my album is literally done,’” he reflected. “She’s like, ‘This needs to be on the album.’ She wanted to get some sh*t off her chest, so I just provided the soundtrack.”
Revenge was released on Aug. 30 via Def Jam Recordings. The 14-track album follows Public Displays of Affection: The Album and includes “Make Me Forget,” her most recent No. 1 hit.
When asked what she hoped listeners would take away from Revenge, Long told Rated R&B, “I hope they get a couple lessons. Maybe feel like they got to know me a little bit better. I hope they have a couple favorites on there that they go back to.”
She continued, “I really try to make no-skip albums that you could just put on and let it play. I hope they f**k with it. I’m claiming I’ve made the R&B album of the year, so that’s what we want everybody to think or feel, should I say.”
