The Weeknd has officially launched a new era with his new single “Dancing in the Flames.”
The Alt-R&B star, born Abel Tesfaye, co-wrote and co-produced the synth-heavy track with Max Martin and Oscar Holter.
On “Dancing in the Flames,” The Weeknd depicts a relationship that has endured its challenges, yet he senses they’re heading toward a fork in the road.
“I can’t wait to see your face / Crash when we’re switchin’ lanes / My love’s beyond the pain / But if I miss the brake / We’re dancin’ in the flames / It’s indescribable,” he sings in the chorus.
“Dancing in the Flames” arrives with an Anton Tammi-directed video shot by Erik Henrikkson on an iPhone 16 Pro. (It’s worth noting that Eddy Chen also shot the promotional photos for the single on an iPhone 16 Pro.)
The cinematic visual opens with The Weeknd in a candy-red vehicle driving amid a foggy and thunderous night. Before he can react, he crashes head-on with a truck, which sends him flying from his vehicle. You’ll have to watch the full video to see how it plays out.
“Dancing in the Flames” is the first single from The Weeknd’s upcoming album, Hurry Up Tomorrow.
The forthcoming project will mark the final installment of a trilogy that began with 2020’s After Hours, followed by 2022’s Dawn FM.
The Weeknd first previewed “Dancing in the Flames” at his one-night-only concert at Estádio MorumBI in São Paulo, Brazil. The 90-minute show included guest appearances from rapper Playboi Carti and Brazilian star Anitta.
Ten percent of the net proceeds from merch sales at the event and online benefited the Brazilian Soul Fund of BrazilFoundation, which supports communities affected by natural disasters and economic hardships in southern Brazil.
Circling back to Hurry Up Tomorrow, The Weeknd’s sixth album “represents the creative apex of the project, serving as the third and final chapter crafted with existential and self-referential themes as seen with the latest visionary teasers that have set fans ablaze with anticipation for this concluding installment.”
Although a release date has not been announced, the album is available for pre-order and pre-save at The Weeknd’s online store. Fans can pre-order a first-pressing vinyl for $33 and a first-pressing CD for $12. Additionally, fans who wish to buy a physical copy of “Dancing in the Flames” can order a CD for $1.99.
