The Weeknd Announces New Album ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’

It's the final installment of a trilogy.

A new era from The Weeknd is upon us. The alt-R&B superstar has announced his new album Hurry Up Tomorrow. 

The forthcoming project is the final installment of a trilogy, which started with 2020’s After Hours and was followed by 2022’s Dawn FM. The first single, “Dancing In the Flames,” will release Sept. 13. 

According to his teaser trailer for Hurry Up Tomorrow, “This album represents the creative apex of the project, serving as the third and final chapter crafted with existential and self-referential themes as seen with the latest visionary teasers that have set fans ablaze with anticipation for this concluding installment.”

Although a release date for Hurry Up Tomorrow has not been announced yet, the album is available for pre-save and pre-order. The official cover art, a portrait of the Canadian singer, has also been unveiled. 

Per The Weeknd’s online store, a first pressing vinyl is available to pre-order for $33 and a first pressing CD for $12. Per the website, the “product will ship near release date, no later than six months from September 7, 2024.”

Speaking of Sept. 7, The Weeknd headlined a one-night-only concert at Estádio MorumBI in São Paulo, Brazil, which was livestreamed on YouTube. The 90-minute show, which attracted 70,000 concertgoers, featured some of The Weeknd’s hits, including “Take My Breath” and “Blinding Lights.”

Additionally, The Weeknd previewed several unreleased songs, including “Wake Me Up,” “Take Me Back to LA,” “Timeless” with rapper Playboi Carti and “São Paulo” with Brazil native Anitta. Both artists joined The Weeknd on stage.

As mentioned above, Hurry Up Tomorrow will complete The Weeknd’s album trilogy, which he launched with After Hours. 

The album, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, featured the smash single “Blinding Lights.” The Max Martin-produced hit spent four weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100 and has garnered over four billion streams on Spotify. 

After Hours also included popular songs, including the title track, “Heartless” and “Save Your Tears.” 

After dropping The Highlights, a greatest hits album, to accompany his Super Bowl LV Halftime Show performance in 2021, The Weeknd returned in January 2022 with Dawn FM. 

The album, which debuted at No. 2, included the singles “Take My Breath,” “Sacrifice” and “Out of Time.” Dawn FM included appearances from Quincy Jones, Lil Wayne, Tyler, the Creator, Oneohtrix Point Never, and Jim Carrey.

“Picture the album being like the listener is dead. And they’re stuck in this purgatory state, which I always imagined would be like being stuck in traffic waiting to reach the light at the end of the tunnel,” The Weeknd explained to Billboard. “And while you’re stuck in traffic, they got a radio station playing in the car, with a radio host guiding you to the light and helping you transition to the other side. So it could feel celebratory, could feel bleak, however you want to make it feel, but that’s what The Dawn is for me.”

In other news, The Weeknd will perform four shows in Australia in October. The shows kick off Oct. 5 at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne. He will perform there for two nights and at Accor Stadium in Sydney for two nights, beginning on Oct. 22. 

Rising singer Chxrry22, who is signed to The Weeknd’s XO Records, will join him on all dates.
