Tyrese’s soulful remake of “Wildflower” has hit a new peak on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart, dated Sept. 21.
The song, a tribute to his late mother, Priscilla Murray Gibson, rises from No. 11 to No. 8 in its fourth week. It becomes the singer/actor’s ninth top 10 entry in his 25-year chart history.
Tyrese made his chart debut with “Sweet Lady” during the week of Jan. 30, 1999. The classic love song rose to No. 2 in April 1999. Since then, he has earned three No. 1s, the most recent being “Shame” in 2015, which spent 16 weeks at the top.
“Wildflower” is Tyrese’s first top 10 on the airplay chart since “Don’t Think You Ever Loved Me” featuring Lenny Kravitz and Le’Andria Johnson, which reached No. 2 in July 2023.
At R&B radio, powered by Mediabase, “Wildflower” is No. 8 with 1,164 spins, gaining 70 spins since last week, and reaching 3.6 million audience impressions.
“Wildflower” is Tyrese’s third single from his recently released album, Beautiful Pain. The song, a cover of The New Birth’s 1973 track, was co-produced by David Foster and Brandon “B.A.M.” Hodge.
Beautiful Pain, released Aug. 30, also includes Tyrese’s other Billboard-charting singles “Don’t Think You Ever Loved Me” and “Love Transaction.”
The album, Tyrese’s first since 2015’s Black Rose, includes additional features from Tamar Braxton, El DeBarge, October London, Kenny G, and Eric Dawkins.
Tyrese will promote Beautiful Pain and material from his TGT career during The R&B Forever Tour, which kicks off on Oct. 4 in Inglewood, California. The tour reunites Tyrese with his TGT bandmates, Ginuwine and Tank, and also features Bell Biv DeVoe as co-headliners.
Presented by Global Events Production, The R&B Forever Tour will visit major cities including Dallas, Miami, Brooklyn, and Chicago, and will conclude in December. Silk is confirmed as one of the special guests, with more to be announced.
