Singer, songwriter and producer Sean Garrett has enlisted Jacquees for his new single “Baddie.”
The syrupy, hard-hitting production, helmed by Keyz Co and Dos Diaz, samples Gioachino Rossini’s “William Tell Overture,” which was also used in Mike Jones’ “Still Tippin‘.”
On the track, Garrett and Jacquees
Jacquees appears in the first verse, singing, “I’m ’bout to grab the Visa / Take her to school, she a teacher / Turn her up like Tina / St. Martin, she a Gina / Looking for love, and I got a lot of it.”
Meanwhile, Garrett switches between singing and melodically rapping. “There ain’t no visceral / That I had to check in your face / Ain’t no malice in your heart / Can tell by the way you taste,” he croons.
Speaking on his “Baddie” collaboration, Garrett shares, “Working on this record with my brother Jacquees was like working on a masterpiece. This record is unique, tasteful, dynamic, fire, for the strip clubs, radio, TikTok or whatever. It’s fun, it’s R&B, and it doesn’t sound like anything else that’s out.”
He continues, “My brother Jacquees came through with an amazing delivery, and I went crazy, of course!!! It’s a new day. R&B IS BACK!!”
“Baddie” is Garrett’s first single since 2016’s “Look On Your Face” featuring Lil Yachty. Before that, he dropped a few one-off singles, including “Anytime” featuring Migos (2013), “Twilight Zone” featuring Future and Trey Songz (2013), “In Da Box” (2011) and “Feel Love” featuring (2011), among others.
In a spring 2023 interview with Rated R&B, Garrett teased that he has a new album on the way. “I’ve been working on it for a minute but it was just about it all coming together at the right time,” he said.
Garrett’s long-awaited project will follow his 2008 debut album, Turbo 919.
While Garrett’s musical output as an artist has been rather seldom over the years, he’s certainly kept himself busy penning hits for artists like Beyoncé, Usher, Brandy, Summer Walker, and many more. He also contributed to multiple tracks on Jacquees’ second album, King of R&B.
